History of the Restaurant s'Herzl traces back to 1767, when the restaurant was a goldsmith shop. Today, know as "the" place to meet in Salzburg's center, guests enter from the Karajanplatz into a folkloristic, creative atmosphere evocative of past times. Evidence of its historic prestige lies in the photos of famous musicians and artists, which line the walls. Leonard Bernstein, Herbert von Karajan, Helmut Luhner, and actor Curt Jurgens are among them. Waitresses wear dirndls to emphasize the traditional Austrian ambience. Dark wood tables and chairs decorate the rooms while golden light from scattered lamps cast romance. Fine table linens serve as a simple background for authentic Salzburg cuisine. The restaurant's signature dish is the famous Nürnberger Bratwürstl, small roasted Nürnberg sausages served with sauerkraut.
